Last weekend I visited Melin Chigwell and wanted to share all the details of my experience as I really think it’s worth sharing! I have been dying to go there after being at the launch and seeing how beautiful and unique the decor was, of course after the launch we got put into lockdown and they have only reopened recently. Melin is the latest restaurant to come to Essex and I’m here for it, it’s mainly Turkish food but you have other things like steak, they do a roast on Sundays where children are allowed to attend (this is the only time) I’m definitely looking to go back after our lovely visit last weekend 😍

Booking must be done over the phone in advance! I booked a week in advance but as time goes on I can see it being a lot busier so make sure you book within plenty of time. There is a £20 deposit per person to pay on a Friday & Saturday night this comes off your bill

Dress code is very very strict on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday night and is enforced so don’t turn up in your Air Forces or with a man bag you will not be allowed in! I received an email when booking and it’s on their Instagram so you can plan your outfits! At first I thought wow this is a bit much however I personally think they are trying to avoid a certain clientele from attending as before it was La Sala which I heard was shut down due to fighting & trouble outside all the time, it’s understandable that Melin wants to be a classy place & not associated with any of that. I wore a dress from Oh Polly and shoes from Simmi so you don’t need to be plastered in designers, just look sophisticated and dressy. For men only certain types of trainers are allowed e.g black Louboutins so please check carefully

We had a very lovely welcome from the front of house and we had the loveliest waitress Marta she was so sweet, I hope she will be recognised for this as she couldn’t have done more for us. All staff were very attentive making sure we were having a good time and everything was okay. I felt very relaxed as sometimes my anxiety gets the better of me but in Melin I felt totally comfortable as everyone was so welcoming.

Prices are on the expensive side but for the location it’s to be expected, it’s not somewhere I can afford every weekend but it’s a treat, for example Porn Star Martini is £15, Mixed Shish £22, desserts around £8/9 – I recommend the Oreo Cheesecake. If there’s a cocktail not in the menu just ask as they will make it for you! The bill for 2 people was £130
this included a few cocktails so if you wasn’t drinking it would be less. It’s not cheap but as I said it’s a treat, it’s definitely somewhere I would go for my birthday for example. The portions are huge!!!! A lot bigger than other Turkish restaurants I have been to. My eyes nearly popped out of my head when Marta brought my food to the table. If you can’t finish any of your food then don’t worry as they will box it up for you!
For my vegans! The vegan menu is not quite ready I was informed by someone on Instagram but when he visited the restaurant offered to make some different food for him that was not on the menu, talk about service!

To put your mind at ease with the whole Covid situation, tables are spaced apart accordingly and there is also hand sanitiser on every table, the whole restaurant is spotless and you can tell a lot of cleaning and preparation goes into it. Signs are placed around to remind you of social distancing and this is done in a classy way in line with the decor.

On a Friday and Saturday night you have entertainment such as a live singer – our singer was so good and was giving us that ‘night out’ vibe, later on there was a belly dancer who we didn’t see but on my Instagram highlights you can watch my footage from the Melin launch party and see the belly dancers they have who look so beautiful & professional! Upstairs there is a bar with a DJ that’s open, the resident DJ is Warren Bynoe who plays all the best music (again watch my highlight from the launch as you will see me loving life with a bit of Drake!)

Melin have it all covered with everything you want for a night out with friends or a date night, don’t forget to have your photo taken under the famous sign inside for that Instagram worthy snap! I won’t lie when I saw the dress code I was worried that Melin will turn into the next Sheesh just catering to the Z listers (any of my Essex people know what I’m talking about) but the service and atmosphere really blew me away I feel like Melin are in a league of their own and can see them doing really well here. The whole place just oozes with class and I can’t wait to return!

Thank you Melin for a great experience I hope to be back soon!

Please note this review is my own opinion and I was not paid / gifted. Anyone please feel free to message me any questions you have!
